In 2015 Adam Broomberg was an organizer of an advert in the Guardian along with Anish Kapoor, Joe Wright, Anoushka Shankar and Jamie Byng, which responded to the unfolding refugee crisis in the UK and opposed the government’s preemptory restrictions. As a part of the action, more than 100 cultural figures including Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Sir Michael Caine and Colin Firth appealed to the government to cooperate with European colleagues to offer immediate humanitarian help and agree on long-term solutions to refugee resettlement.

In the following year, before the UK voted to remain in or leave the European Union, Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin declared their anti-Brexit position, joining numerous artists, musicians and writers expressing their dispute. As a part of the protest, they designed a T-shirt with the inscription reading  “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and commissioned posters from other contemporary artists such as Jeremy Deller and Laure Provoust.
